Everyday Awe: Making Extraordinary Poems from Your Ordinary Experience with poet Carrie Fountain

A poet’s experience of the world is the very basis for their art. So why do we often feel like the lives we’re living aren’t interesting or meaningful enough to yield great poetry? In this inclusive, encouragement-fueled workshop, your everyday life is the only prerequisite for entrance into the craft of writing and reading poetry. Have you ever had an experience? If so, this workshop is for you.
These free events are sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts Rural Tour program, and by Texas Heritage Music Foundation, a non-profit foundation that offers the joy of music to seniors in long-term care facilities, area schools and through house concerts.
Poetry Reading: An evening with poet Carrie Fountain

We're thrilled to host a poetry reading in the gallery featuring 2019 Poet Laureate of Texas, Carrie Fountain. Carrie is a poet, novelist, and children’s book author. She is the author of three poetry collections, The Life, Instant Winner, and Burn Lake, winner of the National Poetry Series Award, and the novel I’m Not Missing. Her recent children’s book, The Poem Forest, tells the story of American poet W.S. Merwin and the palm forest he grew from scratch on the island of Maui. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review and the New Yorker, among many others. She lives in Austin.
